Tucked into the hills above Tinahely, The Dying Cow — known to generations as Tallon's — is about as traditional as an Irish pub gets. Run by the Dolan family for the best part of three centuries: folklore, open fires and regular trad sessions, with a welcome for walkers off the trail.

A rambling, award-winning country pub in Redcross that draws you from room to room past open fires and pot-belly stoves, with the family's own Wicklow Brewery beers on tap. Wednesday nights bring traditional music, Irish dancing and storytelling. Traditional in feel, ambitious on the plate.

A mile from Glendalough, Lynham's is the natural stop for walkers off the hills. At its heart is Jake's Bar, trading since 1776 — turf fire, easy chat and a carvery built on hearty classics. Sunday evenings bring a traditional session in season, and there are comfortable rooms upstairs.
Set in two acres of award-winning gardens on the Vartry, Hunter's is one of Ireland's oldest coaching inns — a beautifully intact early-18th-century house the same family has run for around two hundred years. The small open-fire bar and antique-filled rooms have changed little. A heritage stay rather than a session pub.

We start with Google Maps ratings — 4.3 stars minimum, based on at least 50 reviews. Then we apply editorial judgement, occasionally including a heritage pub on character. Nothing is ranked by an algorithm.
A pub cannot pay to appear at the top. Rankings are editorial — based on quality, atmosphere, food and drink, service and what makes a genuinely great Irish pub. Paid listings offer visibility, never priority.
Any pub that contacts us and asks to be removed is removed immediately, no questions asked. We're not here to scrape and publish data pubs haven't agreed to. Participation is always voluntary.
Every factual claim — name, address, Eircode, phone, food served — is verified against five independent sources before it goes in a profile. If two sources disagree, we flag it rather than guess.
We build one county at a time — thoroughly, not quickly. Wicklow first. When Wicklow is done properly, we move to Kerry, Cork, Dublin. Every county gets the same editorial standard.

Every profile is marked Pending Approval until it has been personally signed off and the pub has been given the chance to claim or decline its listing. Nothing is published as final without that step.
